Inverloch Fishing Highlights 8th February 2012

08 Feb 2013

Fishing the deeper holes in Anderson Inlet is proving to be the key to catching your target species this week. King George Whiting to 45 cm at the Snags, in the main channel outside Stevies Gutter and at Mahers Landing out the front of the Inverloch Boat Hire. Best baits are mussel meat, bass yabbies and pipi. Amongst them, you will find good sized trevally (ready for a gummy shark upgrade) and flathead to 50 cm.

Some good land based sized pinkie snapper to 40 cm off Doyles Rd taking pilchards. The highlight of the last week has been the 20kg gummy shark caught by Venus Bay local, Rory, landbased at Doyles Rd. He used cured eel.

Above the highway bridge in Tarwin River and east of the Venus Bay Islands are the areas to target Estuary Perch. Bass Yabbies have been the pick of the baits with the full assortment of soft and hard baits working well. Don't be suprised to catch 30-40 fish (catch and release) in a session. The high tide in the Tarwin River is approx 3 hours later than Port Phillip Heads so the morning run-out tides over the weekend are ideal.

The Gummy Shark activity on the Venus Bay Beaches has continued with good holes on Beaches 1,2 and 4. Again, good sized Flathead to 50cm are a good by-catch on your running sinker set-up. Best baits trevally, cured eel and squid heads. The new moon of Sunday 10th is the pick of the days for beach fishing (if the wind behaves itself) and the following 3 days.

Enjoy your fishing!
