An unseasonal run of Salmon have entered both Anderson Inlet and Shallow Inlet. Reaching as far up the inlet as Mahers Landing, fish to 1.2 kg) are taking baits and lures. You can have a crack at them land-based, from a boat or a kayak. At Shallow Inlet, slightly smaller in size with trolling from a boat the best option.
The question is, why at this time of year? As both inlets have had a good run of prawns, we believe suggested they may have followed them in.
FOOTNOTE: When trolling for salmon, don't drive your boat to close to the schools. You will just scatter them and make it more difficult to locate them again. If you see a school of fish busting up the surface, troll around the edges or move away and cast light metal lures or soft baits in front of the school.
