Well, all the planets aligned following the New Moon this week. A high barometer reading around 1030, overcast conditions and a light southerly breeze. And the Australian Salmon didn't disappoint. Spinning lures off the beach east of the Jetty towards the Mouth of Screw Creek produced fish to 60cm a couple of hours either side of the high tide. Blue bait patterns were the most successful pattern of lure. Waders are a must as the tide starts to run out, you will need to walk out further to reach the school. This week-end has very favourable weather predictions, high tides are mid afternoon, so grab your spinning gear to have some fun.

Hobie Kayak Fishing for estuary perch in Inverloch Victoria

Thu, 06/16/2016 - 11:46
Land Based spinning for Salmon on Inlet beaches can be rewarding and there are times when you spin your ar** off for nought. Don't expect the Australian Salmon to always move along the same sections of beach. As they are always following bait schools, they will be where the bait schools go. When spinning, releasing berley can attract them towards the area you are fishing. The beginning of the run out tide is the best time as it suck out  into the deeper water. Try some new spots. In Anderson Inlet, fish the low tide off the sand spit at the mouth of Screw Creek, Mahers Landing on a run in tide or at the Inverloch entrance where the channel runs inside the bar and across towards the Snags.
Inverloch Winter Fishing

In horrific conditions today, a good sized school of Australian Salmon moved along the beaches at Pensioners Point. Fish ranged from 32 to 43cm and smashed silver metal lures cast out into the channel. After checking our records, the Salmon were three days later than last year. So put the first week of June in your diaries for next year and hope it coincides with the black days (three days after each new moon) in the Fishing Almanac. Get your spinning gear and your metal lures to fish the last hour of the incoming times over the next few days.

With Salmon Season underway, we were fortunate to have some great weather to send up a Drone up last week. The purpose  to show the best land-based options to fish with a better understanding of the changing sand bars and channels. The salmon schools are  moving in on the tides following large bait schools. So where are the best locations to reach when spinning lures and bait fishing?

Great Fishing at Mahers Landing
Thu, 04/21/2016 - 10:32
The great fishing in Anderson Inlet continues through this warm and stable weather for April. Landbased, Pensioners Point is producing Trevally to 40cm taking Bluebait on the running tide, Flathead to 45cm on Pilchards and Squid. Although the numbers of Whiting has reduced, the size is consistantly 35-38cm Best baits are Worm, Pipi, Mussel, Squid Strips and Live Bass Yabbies. Mahers Landing is the area to target Gummy shark and Elephant Fish. The full moon of the 22nd makes the week-end a prime time to target them. Fresh baits, a good berley trail and fishing the  2 hours either side of the high tide should see results come your way.

When the weather starts to get some consistency, like the big high that is settling over Victoria, it's time to tell the kids to stick the electronic devises up the proverbial, and GET OUTSIDE!!!!! Some much to do when the weather is good. The Inverloch Jetty is proving very productive at all tides with famillies catching a variety of species including flathead, mullet. salmon, luderick, leather jacket and the odd trevally. Best baits are pipi (using the crushed shells as berley), cured worm, blubait and squid strips.

It is fair to say that in Anderson Inlet, the term Pinkie Snapper is regularly used. When the Snapper Seaon is full on in Western Port and Port Phillip Bay, a 2kg Pinkie Snapper is a good catch in Anderson Inlet. November is the usual time to start targeting them. But this year is the season has started early and the quality of fish is that of the larger bays. Snapper to 3 kg are taking fresh squid baits are being taken in the Mahers Landing region with bigger fish (photos: Judith with this 5.4kg Snapper and John witha 2.9kg Snapper...gilled and gutted) are about. Good numbers of Gummy Shark in the 4-7kg range are taking trevally fillets, pilchards and saury.
