Fishing at the Inverloch Jetty during the week is a special land-based location as young Zac and his family discovered. Lacking the boating activity of weekends, the fish and other sea creatures that enjoy weed beds around the Jetty and east of the jetty are more comfortable to feed. At low tide yesterday, Zac was fishing with pipi in search of King George Whiting, but instead his baits were being followed by calamari. A change of tactics, using a squid jig landed this beautiful calamari. When fishing low tides on the jetty, remember to bring a long handled net  to maximize your catch.

On Sunday 23rd February 2014, all the planets alligned for a night fish on Venus Bay Beach 1. A substantial gutter through the break had formed a decent hole about 100 metres to the left of the carpark. A run out tide on dusk and a late half moon rising after midnight. (the night would be similar to a new moon whilst we fished). The barometer was steady and the winds were to be light and the most important factor was....we all had leave passes!

Nice 3 degree morning in Screw Creek Inverloch. Peddling around the Hobie Revolution 13 in search of Estuary Pearch

Joel targeted Estuary Perch on surface poppers in the Tarwin River this morning. He was up pre-sparrows and had a great session catching and  releasing 30 perch around the highway bridge. The fish were most active before the sun was up over the trees and were smashing the lures on the surface in the shadows. One of the larger 49 cm perch swallowed the lure. Joel was concerned that it may not survive being released and placed him in the live tank. On his return to the Tarwin Boat Ramp, he checked it and it was full of fight and was returned to the water. The sun was now up and the perch went straight under the jetty for protection. Good on ya mate!

Recently flew to Sydney for a few days with the wife and friends to drink and eat ourselves stupid at some of Sydney’s finest establishments. It was a little odd leaving Melbourne airport on a beautiful warm day to fly into Sydney that was expecting pretty bad weather. More on the weather later.    Arriving Saturday afternoon we dumped our gear at the hotel on the Woolloomooloo wharf. We then grabbed a water taxi across the harbour to get a feed of fish and chips at Doyle’s.

Daniel fishing with his my son Matt had agreat day in early December on Anderson Inlet. Pumped fresh bait....live bass yabbies. The story of the day appears to be that Matt caught most of the fish whilst Daniel justed baited the hooks !!! They fished in great conditions with light winds. They caught a combination of Flathead, whiting , trevally ,mullet and of course toadfish. The smile on Matt's Face tells the story.

When the weather allows us to fish Anderson Inlet, there are many opportunities to target quality fish. Whiting...the Snags, Stevies Gutter and at the A Frame (west side of Mahers Landing) are producing many fish to 35cm and the odd 45cm around the changing tides. Best Baits...live bass yabbies (pumped at the mouth of Screw Creek), pipi, squid strips and pilchard fillets.

Brent from Swan Hill has caught and released many fish in his Hobie Outback. This is his personal best Murray Cod that measured 110cm and 48lb taken when trolling lures. After photos, this fish was returned to water in good health.   Well done Brent!
