Great Salmon Run off the Beach at Inverloch 4th August 2016

Thu, 08/04/2016 - 09:51 -- David Walsh

Well, all the planets aligned following the New Moon this week.

A high barometer reading around 1030, overcast conditions and a light southerly breeze. And the Australian Salmon didn't disappoint.

Spinning lures off the beach east of the Jetty towards the Mouth of Screw Creek produced fish to 60cm a couple of hours either side of the high tide. Blue bait patterns were the most successful pattern of lure.

Waders are a must as the tide starts to run out, you will need to walk out further to reach the school.

Searching for Salmon Update 21st June 2016

Thu, 06/16/2016 - 11:46 -- David Walsh

Land Based spinning for Salmon on Inlet beaches can be rewarding and there are times when you spin your ar** off for nought.

Don't expect the Australian Salmon to always move along the same sections of beach. As they are always following bait schools, they will be where the bait schools go.

When spinning, releasing berley can attract them towards the area you are fishing. The beginning of the run out tide is the best time as it suck out  into the deeper water.

Salmon Off the Inverloch Beaches 7th June 2016

Tue, 06/07/2016 - 15:58 -- David Walsh

In horrific conditions today, a good sized school of Australian Salmon moved along the beaches at Pensioners Point.

Fish ranged from 32 to 43cm and smashed silver metal lures cast out into the channel.

After checking our records, the Salmon were three days later than last year.

So put the first week of June in your diaries for next year and hope it coincides with the black days (three days after each new moon) in the Fishing Almanac.

Get your spinning gear and your metal lures to fish the last hour of the incoming times over the next few days.

Great Fishing Times for Kids in Inverloch 15th Decenber 2015

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 18:47 -- David Walsh

When the weather starts to get some consistency, like the big high that is settling over Victoria, it's time to tell the kids to stick the electronic devises up the proverbial, and GET OUTSIDE!!!!! Some much to do when the weather is good.

The Inverloch Jetty is proving very productive at all tides with famillies catching a variety of species including flathead, mullet. salmon, luderick, leather jacket and the odd trevally.

Best baits are pipi (using the crushed shells as berley), cured worm, blubait and squid strips.

Salmon come in after SW Blow 16th July 2015

Wed, 07/15/2015 - 13:50 -- David Walsh

It finally happened...after a good blow from the South West and some seriously good swell which all the surfers have enjoyed.

From first light today, trevally were hooked in big numbers again. As it got closer to high tide, the schools as salmon could be seen in the shallows and the game changed.

Bait rigs were removed and the spinning started. What a session at Pensioners Point! But it didn't stop there. Next the boats that had braved the extremely cold conditions were rewarded with fish 1.8kg in the main channel off Townsend Bluff. (along from the mouth of screw Creek)
