Searching for Salmon Update 21st June 2016

Thu, 06/16/2016 - 11:46 -- David Walsh

Land Based spinning for Salmon on Inlet beaches can be rewarding and there are times when you spin your ar** off for nought.

Don't expect the Australian Salmon to always move along the same sections of beach. As they are always following bait schools, they will be where the bait schools go.

When spinning, releasing berley can attract them towards the area you are fishing. The beginning of the run out tide is the best time as it suck out  into the deeper water.

Salmon Off the Inverloch Beaches 7th June 2016

Tue, 06/07/2016 - 15:58 -- David Walsh

In horrific conditions today, a good sized school of Australian Salmon moved along the beaches at Pensioners Point.

Fish ranged from 32 to 43cm and smashed silver metal lures cast out into the channel.

After checking our records, the Salmon were three days later than last year.

So put the first week of June in your diaries for next year and hope it coincides with the black days (three days after each new moon) in the Fishing Almanac.

Get your spinning gear and your metal lures to fish the last hour of the incoming times over the next few days.

Drone View of Anderson Inlet. 9th June 2016

With Salmon Season underway, we were fortunate to have some great weather to send up a Drone up last week.

The purpose  to show the best land-based options to fish with a better understanding of the changing sand bars and channels.

The salmon schools are  moving in on the tides following large bait schools. So where are the best locations to reach when spinning lures and bait fishing?

Salmon off the beaches at Inverloch 4th June 2015

Thu, 06/04/2015 - 16:17 -- David Walsh

After being teased for the last month or so, a solid run of salmon came close to the Inverloch shoreline at Pensioners Point.

The schools outside are in the vancinity of 3 kg and up to 65cm and having been moving from Cape Paterson towards the mouth of Andersons Inlet.

Today, just after the high tide, fish to just under 2 kg were landed on metal lures. The best being the Searock Ultra Flash 40gram in pilchard.

The Ol' Boys have been waiting and were well reward for their patience. And fortunately, caught the fish before the storm came through.

Inverloch....Landbased Salmon.....grab a lure and have a crack!

Fri, 07/04/2014 - 16:42 -- David Walsh

The pattern of late afternoon tides and big salmon off Pensioners Point continued. Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons produced 2kg fish around the high tide. This also coincided with a high barometer reading of 1030 and north/north-west winds increasing your casting distance.

Metal lures 25-40 gram produced the results and some quality fish were taken on blue bait.

So when you are planning a trip, I would suggest you consider the Wednesday 16th July through to Sunday 20th to spin off Pensioners Point.
