Inverloch Land-Based Fishing Highlights   27th March  2014.

Flatrocks. Around the low tide good numbers of trevally to 1 kg, pinkies to 32cm and the odd whiting to 45cm. Blue bait and squid the best of the baits.

The Entrance. Changing conditions with shallow sandbars has resulted in limited opportunities to target salmon on the incoming tide. But at low, wading out into the shallow allows you to cast at the weed beds are target King George Whiting. Best bait live bass yabbies, pipi, beach worm and strips of US squid on a size 6 longshank or light circle hook.

Pensioners Point. As the channel has opened up across from the point, this is now the prime spot to target species that travel on the tide. Salmon trevally and pike are on the move through here following bait fish. Spinning light metal lures or bait fishing using blue or white bait is achieving good results.

Inverloch Jetty. This is the hotspot at the moment with all tides producing a wide variety of fish. Around the low tide, using berley, you can attract squid, flathead and mullet. With the incoming tide comes salmon, trevally, yellow tail scad, pike and the odd elephant fish. Best baits for the jetty are blue and white bait, pipi, sand worm and squid strips. At night, around the top of the tides, gummy shark to a metre are taking whole pilchards, trevally fillets, fresh mullet fillets and squid.

Weed beds. (east of the Jetty) Flathead to 45cm and King George whiting to 40cm taking bass yabbies around the turn in the tide. First and last light are the pick of the times. Spinning soft plastics through this channel towards the mouth of Screw Creek is producing bigger flathead. Cast onto the flats and allow the soft bait to fall down the edges of the channel.

Screw Creek. The run out tide is producing good sized Estuary Perch taking live bass yabbie, surface poppers and shallow diving hard body lures.

Mahers Landing. In the shallows west of the boat ramp, good sized pinkies and gummy shark  are taking saury, trevally and fresh fish fillets after dark. During the overcast days, whiting to 40cm are also being taken off the shell bank in front of the A frame house. The deeper water of the channel east of the boat ramp is producing trevally, mullet, salmon and elephant fish.

Doyles Rd. The best landbased area of the Inlet to target big flathead. Fish to 3 kg are taking pilchards and a variety of soft baits including 5" minnows and  6" worms. At night gummies to 6 kg around the high tide on fresh trevally or salmon fillets.

Tarwin River. Trevally to 1 kg are taking white bait on the incoming tide around rock wall in the lower reaches. Also Estuary Perch are taking worm, live bass yabbies and peeled prawn from the fishing platforms up towards the bridge.

 

Venus Bay Surf. Beach 1 and 4 are the best of the beaches producing salmon during the day light hours on the incoming tide. Blue and white bait, and pipi are producing the best fish on a paternoster rig. If you like chasing mullet, berley up and fish the shallow white wash with pipi or chicken strips.

After dark on the run out tide, gummy shark to 8 kg taking trevally fillets and squid heads on a running sinker rig. Sinker weight required will be between 3-6 oz.
