They say "variety is the spice of life " and the land based fishing in Anderson Inlet continues to provide great variety.
For landbased anglers, the week bed (photo) east of the jetty is producing flathead to 45cm and whiting to 40cm around the tides and schools of mullet, trevally and salmon on the incoming tide. From the photo you can see many sand holes and gutters amongst the 100 plus metre weed bed. Casting distances range from 20 -30 metres. If you get a chance, have a good look at this weed bed at low tide. Identify these sand holes and gutters with a land mark on shore to ensure you are fishing in the gaps rather than snagging in the weed. Kayakers can fish on the Inlet side of the weed and produce excellent results. Best baits are pilchard fillets, live bass yabbies and pipi.
Whiting to 45cm at the Snags and in Stevies Gutter in the last two hours of the run out tide on pipi and live bass yabbies. If you looking to chase the big whiting, try a pilchard fillet and let us know how you go.
Mahers Landing is the area to target pinkie snapper on dusk with fish to 2 kg taking squid legs, whole US squid and pilchards. Gummy shark are moving deeper in the Inlet on the tide and the green buoys leading up to Nolans Bluff is the prime area to target them. Trevally fillets is the pick of the baits.
Estuary perch are being taken in Screw Creek, around the Venus Bay Islands and the Tarwin River. The run out tide is you best chance using soft baits and suspending hard body lures. As the estury perch move out into the Inlet to feed on the run out tide, you may get them as a bi-catch at Doyles Rd, Townsend Bluff and the Snags.
The surf beach side of Flatrocks is producing good sized whiting to 40cm around dusk.
On the Venus Bay Beaches, Beach 1 and 4 continue to produce good gummy shark and this full moon has been no different. 4-6 kg species taking trevally fillets and saury after dusk on the run-out tide.
